Paul Wicks KC

Paul has practiced as a barrister sole since December 1994. He took silk in 2014. His primary speciality areas are in criminal and employment law.  He also has wide ranging experience in other areas including:

• Civil proceedings;
• Regulatory law;
• Professional standards and disciplinary proceedings.

Paul has extensive experience as a trial and appellate advocate, appearing at all levels of courts in New Zealand.

In his criminal law practice Paul has particular expertise including acting as counsel in:

• Complex and serious criminal cases;
• Regulatory Law matters, in particular Health & Safety prosecutions;
• Criminal Proceeds (Recovery) Act matters.

Paul is ranked in the Chambers Asia-Pacific 2024 Guide – White Collar Crime: The Bar.

In his employment law practice Paul appears across the Employment Court, Employment Relations Authority and Court of Appeal in litigation arising out of employment relationships, including employee disputes, restraint of trade and breach of confidence claims. Paul also accepts instructions to undertake independent investigations and to act as a mediator in employment disputes.

Between 1995 and 2001 Paul served as a member of the NZ Bar Association Council.
